Meet Our Fall 2017 Interns: Laura and Katie

Fall 2017 Sycamore Institute Interns

The Sycamore Institute would like to offer a warm welcome to two new interns who are working with our staff this fall. We asked Laura and Katie to share a little bit about themselves below.

If you or someone you know are interested in an internship with The Sycamore Institute, please visit SycamoreInstituteTN.org/jobs. Applications for Spring 2018 internships are due October 31.

Now, let’s meet Laura and Katie!

Laura

Name: Laura Baker

School: Tennessee State University

Major: Graduate Certificate in Public Policy

Hometown: Charleston, Illinois

Why did you want to intern at The Sycamore Institute?
I have a passion for effective, data-driven policy that intentionally addresses specific public outcomes, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved with a nonpartisan organization that also values empirical decision making. The Sycamore Institute’s holistic approach to better health outcomes for Tennesseans is a model that I believe can be applied to many spheres of public policy, and I’m looking forward to learning best practices for Tennessee specific research around health policy.

Where do you want to be in 15 years?
In 15 years I hope to be involved in a non-profit organization involved in creating and proposing policy for local and/or state government, in a role that is involved in research as well as relationship building with legislators and policy makers.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I am a mother of three curious kids, and I love exposing them to Nashville’s culture of creativity and community!
