Waters: Obamacare, Trumpcare and people who need care


March 21, 2017 — A small group of church folks sat around a dining room table Sunday afternoon writing letters to their representatives in Congress. “Dear Senator Alexander,” Laura Harris wrote.

“I’m a small business owner and I provide insurance for my 7-year-old and myself through the ACA. While the premiums have risen, the coverage is far better than the proposed AHCA. Please uphold Christian and human values to create a nation where we can care for each other.”

Today, two in five Tennesseans get their health insurance through Medicare or TennCare, the state’s Medicaid program. The AHCA’s proposed cuts in Medicaid could cost TennCare from $1 billion to $17 billion over the next 10 years, according to the nonpartisan Sycamore Institute.
